A man can dream, right?

Diesel torque and economy makes so much more sense on a truck I'm not sure why they sell many petrols. Maybe the more expensive diesel in the US?
Edit: I'm tired for some reason saw a dollar sign not pound sign.

Wouldn't that only be like 30.5 on the U.S. cycle?

Pretty much every truck sells in the US as a turbodiesel too.

Hmm most of the trucks I see on here seem to be petrol powered. That's not indicative of overall sales though obviously.

Well, your gallons are smaller for a start and the test cycle used in the EU is notoriously optimistic so yes, your figures would vary.

Not the most popular one apparently.

America is a very different place. Not only is fuel basically free but petrol is even cheaper than diesel so a diesel isn't economic unless you do a very high annual mileage.
They haven't sold petrol Hiluxes - or any other pick up - in Europe for decades. They actually may have never sold them in some cases.

This, not many people acheive the quoted mpg over here. I'm a full 10mpg off mine (although my driving might have something to do with that).

Yeah I wish we had their fuel prices...
Not to mention we dont have as many pick ups around here, vans seem to fill that role in a lot of cases.

Pickups are part of their national psyche. They're normally used to move air around so I think they buy them because they have this image of themselves as good ol' boys who just love doing real tough things like hauling great big things along the motorway when in reality many owners just use them for the school run and shopping expeditions. They also use them where we would use real trucks or vans and attach great importance to how many tons they can tow, something that doesn't apply here because you'd need a Class C licence for large weights and then you'd have a 90 kmh speed limiter and so on.

Yup, the lack of a weight limit on their stuff I find especially disturbing. Imagine some of the mouthbreathers on the roads being able to drive stuff the size of a bus.
My grandad used to deliver vans for a living that were just below the weight limit for a normal licence and he said some of his fellow drivers didnt have a clue.

Wish I had that kind of MPG on the 20R in my Hilux...
